Just off the beaten track but well worth a visit is a trip to the east side of Southampton, or as others call it – a trip across the Itchen River. Many of our forbearers have made the journey to encounter the delights of Woolston and its environs.

Encounter our Roman ancestors on the site if Clausentum and the remains of the Roman Road.

Take a visit to the riverside to explore the industry and endeavour that have shaped this part of the city. Encounter flight and sail and hear of the shipyards and the aircraft factory famous for the building of the iconic aircraft such as the Supermarine SB6 and the Spitfire designed by R.J. Mitchell.

Hunt for the lost village of Itchen Ferry and encounter some of the wildlife residents in the area.

Take a pleasant walk up to Peartree Green to follow in the footsteps of royalty and authors. Share in the experience of the beating of the bounds and visit the oldest Anglican Church in the world.

No visit to this location would be complete without hearing the heroic tale of Richard Parker (last act of cannibalism on the high seas) and how his life changed legal history.
